Care of the Patient with Lower Extremity Wounds (CE-4021)

This course builds on the standardized lower extremity wound care pathway to encourage early identification of client risks for chronic wounds. You will discuss the history of wound care and review the physiology of wound healing. You will learn the causes and symptoms related to various types of lower extremity wounds. Emphasis is on skin assessment, wound identification, and wound management. You will also discuss principles of prevention and management related to nutrition and control of diabetes. Information relevant to specific patient populations is included. An instructor led skills lab will provide you with an opportunity for hands on practice of the skills learned in the online theory. Prerequisite: RN/LPN/RPN (You will be required to provide your license number at time of registration.)
