Continuing Nursing Education


This course is for licensed practical nurses that require more knowledge and skill ability for intramuscular injections (IM). For the theory portion of the course, you will be required to complete the workbook, view a video and write an examination. Upon successful completion of the theory portion of the course, you will be required to attend a lab. During the lab, time will be provided for practicing and testing of the skill.

Prerequisites: One of: Medications Clinical (CLIN 279), Drug Therapy 2 (Phar 262), Practical Nursing Clinical Experience 2C (CLIN 275), Practical Nursing Practicum 3 (PRAC 261), Practical Nursing Re-Entry Clinical Experience (CLIN 227) or similar course approved by Practical Nursing Program Head

You will learn the anatomy, structure and function of the nail, foot and skin. You will participate in activities to move and position clients/objects in health care settings using minimal physical effort and maximizing the use of mechanical aids and equipment. The course focuses on client/caregiver safety. Upon successfully completing the course, you will receive a Transferring, Lifting, Repositioning (TLR) certificate.

You are encouraged to wear scrubs but if you don’t have any, please wear clothes that allow ease of movement that also have appropriate coverage.

This course is for licensed practical nurses that require more knowledge and skill ability for wound care. The course content includes theory, selfstudy, simulated lab testing and an exam. Your studies will focus on suture and clip removal, the principles of sterile technique and medical/surgical asepsis. Upon successful completion of the theory portion of the course, you will be required to attend a lab. During the lab, time will be provided for practicing and testing of the skill.
