Academic and Career Education Non-Credit Courses


WHMIS is a uniform, national regulatory system to inform about hazardous material (legally called “Controlled Products”). This course will enable participants to understand the intent of WHMIS symbols, labels and procedures for filling out MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheets) in places of employment. Participants will be trained on recognition and safe handling as well as use and storage of controlled products used at the workplace.

Gaining a GED® Grade 12 equivalency can provide you with an alternative high school standing. Completing your GED ® may help you qualify for a better job or gain admittance to some post-secondary institutions.

The GED® preparation classes will prepare you to write the GED® test by refreshing your skills, familiarizing you with the test format and building your confidence in taking timed tests. Practice tests and instruction in subject areas (Language Arts Writing, Language Arts Reading, Social Studies, Science and Mathematics) will be covered. Attendance is mandatory the first two nights for the writing of predictor tests in the five subject areas.

This non-credit course is a refresher for students entering a Saskatchewan Polytechnic technology program. It is recommended for students who have completed high school math more than five years ago or any student who is anxious about the mathematics component of their program. The course will review the basics of algebra, geometry, trigonometry, exponential and logarithmic equations. Students will have an opportunity to develop skills in problem solving and calculator use. There is no instructor and no book or manual; the course features video demonstrations and animations of mathematical procedures, as well as interactive exercises and quizzes. Students typically work through the course in 10 to 20 hours.
