Health Services Occupational Health and Safety


You will participate in activities to move and position clients/objects in health care settings using minimal physical effort and maximizing the use of mechanical aids and equipment. The course focuses on client/caregiver safety. Upon successfully completing the course, you will receive a Transferring, Lifting, Repositioning (TLR) certificate.

You are encouraged to wear scrubs but if you don’t have any, please wear clothes that allow ease of movement that also have appropriate coverage.

WHMIS is a uniform, national regulatory system to inform about hazardous material (legally called “Controlled Products”). This course will enable participants to understand the intent of WHMIS symbols, labels and procedures for filling out MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheets) in places of employment. Your studies will focus on the preparation required to successfully facilitate in-house workplace hazardous materials information system (WHMIS) sessions for front line workers. You will learn about relevant legislation including requirements of worker training, controlled product classification, and required documentation and labelling. You will also develop skills to design specific workplace training sessions.

Prerequisites: Prerequisite: Must have a valid WHMIS Certificate Note: Employer specific WHMIS training is not acceptable. Training comparable to Saskatchewan Polytechnic's Con-Ed offering of WHMS 1800 (4 hour training) is acceptable.
