Saskatchewan Polytechnic dinner leverages partnerships with employers

Annual business and industry dinner presented by Graham Group Ltd. hosted in Saskatoon tonight

November 19, 2015 - Saskatchewan Polytechnic Business and Industry Dinners provide a valuable networking opportunity for students to make new employer contacts, meet industry leaders and possibly launch their career with their first job offer.

The dinner, presented by Graham Group Ltd., allows employers and industry partners to meet face-to-face with future graduates, providing an opportunity to build their future workforce.

"Our mission is to educate students and provide skilled and successful graduates. This would not be possible without our employer connections," says Dr. Larry Rosia, Saskatchewan Polytechnic's president and CEO. "Employers are partners in everything we do. We leverage these relationships to give students the best education and hands-on work experience possible. The Business and Industry Dinners are a great example of how Sask Polytech brings students and employers together to benefit all involved."

"Graham is proud to continue to sponsor the Saskatchewan Polytechnic business and industry dinners across Saskatchewan. This provides a face-to-face opportunity for students to meet industry leaders and some of the school's successful graduates. Saskatchewan Polytechnic's connections to community and industry position its students for success," says June Verhelst, vice-president at Graham Group. "The knowledge and skills students develop through their education at the institute has been important to every sector of Saskatchewan's economy. Graham knows that the graduates are well equipped to contribute to their employers."

Funds raised through the events support scholarships and bursaries for Sask Polytech students. To date, the value of scholarships and bursaries supported by the event and given to students totals almost $1.3 million.

This year, approximately 1,100 students, staff and business representatives are expected at the 2015 Saskatchewan Polytechnic Business and Industry Dinners, with 340 expected to attend tonight's dinner in Saskatoon. A business and industry dinner is held at each of Saskatchewan Polytechnic's four campus cities.

The keynote speaker will be Tom Foster, president of Industrial Machine & Mfg. Inc. and a graduate of the Mechanical Engineering Technology program at Saskatchewan Polytechnic (then SIAST). Trevor Gowen, also a Sask Polytech alumnus, will be the master of ceremonies.
