Sask Polytech builds Halloween costume for boy

October 29, 2015 - Saskatchewan Polytechnic industrial mechanics, auto body and welding students built a motorcycle wheelchair attachment for a young boy with cerebral palsy. Almost 10 students, along with Sask Polytech industrial mechanics program head Rob Gilchrist, spent a month building this unique Halloween costume after program hours.

Diane Edwards receives DAEC award for outstanding educator October 27, 2015 - The Dental Assisting Educators of Canada (DAEC) recently announced Saskatchewan Polytechnic faculty member Diane Edwards as the recipient of their 2015 Award for Outstanding Educator. As a national body, DAEC provides the opportunity for its members to enhance and articulate dental assistant education in Canada.

Nursing Students Deliver Health Education about Influenza Immunization, in collaboration with the Regina Open Door Society

Students from the Saskatchewan Collaborative Bachelor of Science in Nursing (SCBScN) program (offered jointly by Saskatchewan Polytechnic and the University of Regina) will join with Regina Qu'Appelle Health Region (RQHR) Public Health Nurses, at the Regina Open Door Society (RODS) on October 21 to provide flu shots to many refugees and immigrants that live here in Regina. Last week students were on site at RODS to deliver health education sessions about influenza immunization. Getachew Woldyesus, manager of Regina Open Door Society's Settlement Family and Community Services Division stated “We are delighted that the collaborative nursing program has partnered with our Organization and the Regina Qu'Appelle Health Region for a second straight year, to provide this very necessary information and access to immunizations for newcomers to Regina.” Last year 631 newcomers were immunized at the Regina Open Door Society Flu Clinic.

Sask Polytech/Southeast College agreement expands opportunities for students

September 30, 2015 - Saskatchewan Polytechnic and Southeast College signed an agreement today that paves the way for new and enhanced skills training for students in southeastern Saskatchewan. Under the agreement, the two post-secondary institutions will share their expertise and resources so that they can train more skilled workers to fill labour shortages in industries such as energy and mining.

The name change is symbolic of the new direction we are taking as the province's premiere public institution of applied learning and applied research. Next fall, when 16 students from India step off their plane in Saskatoon, they'll see a familiar face waiting for them. That familiar face will be Michael van Grondelle, the head of Sask Polytech's Hotel and Restaurant Management program. With the support of his fellow instructors, he's brought the program to the city of Chandigarh where classes kicked off this September.
