    Second Sask Polytech, Habitat for Humanity home is moved to permanent location

    Earlier today the second Habitat for Humanity home was moved to its permanent location in Prince Albert. This is the second house Saskatchewan Polytechnic carpentry students have built for Habitat for Humanity. In February 2015, Saskatchewan Polytechnic and Habitat for Humanity, Prince Albert, signed a memorandum of agreement for carpentry students to build five houses in five years. Under the five-year plan, the students will frame houses and install windows, exterior doors, siding, soffits and shingles.

Employers connected with more than 500 students in technology-based programs offered from the Schools of Construction; Information and Communications Technology; Mining, Energy and Manufacturing; and Natural Resources and Built Environment.

    Saskatchewan Polytechnic celebrates as alumnus sets Guinness World Record

    According to the Guinness Book of World Records, Lorne Figley is the world’s oldest plumber October 24, 2016 – Even though he’s 92-years-old, Lorne Figley is proud to be working every day doing what he loves. “Working helps keep my body fit and my brain sharp. I hope to die with a pipe wrench in my hand,” says Lorne. Having received his technical training at Saskatchewan Polytechnic in the 1950s and 1970s, which includes sheet metal, plumbing, steam fitting/pipefitting/refrigeration and air conditioning, he still uses the knowledge as he continues to operate his own heating and plumbing business in Saskatoon.
